I was fortunate enough to spend a month back in New Zealand playing in some of my favourite events of the year. I flew home mid February for 3 events. I also managed some time with family and friends, announcing my engagement on the 20th of February to my then girlfriend, Lucinda.
We are both very excited at our future and am pleased to say she did say ‘Yes’
Whilst in New Zealand I managed to play in the NZPGA and NZ Open. I played some great golf over the two weeks with my best memory being a final hole 15ft birdie putt I made to try and make the weekend at the NZPGA. Unfortunately I fell just one shot short in making both of the cut’s. Rounds of 76 & 68 at the NZPGA and then 70 & 73 at the NZ Open. It was a dissapointing few weeks results wise but there were moments from both events in which I was extremely pleased with.
Last week saw me travel to Haikou in China for the Buick Open at Mission Hills, unfortunately I was forced to withdraw from the event after picking up a nasty Virus during the week. I arrived in Monday morning and after a gym session and some time on the range I had a great sleep Monday night. Tuesday I felt a little lethargic and put it down to the travel. When I woke Wednesday I felt worse and after playing the Pro Am in 35 degree heat and high humidity, I went to bed Wednesday night feeling rather average with what seemed a strong migraine. I stayed in bed sleeping for 18 hours and in this time was forced to withdraw from the tournament Thursday mid day. It was a frustrating week but I am thankful it has only effected one event of the season. It reminded me of the importance of my Health within my job.
I now have time to re group and get my health back to 100%. I will be working closely with my coaches across April to work on my game before I leave on May 10 to China for 4 events.
I’m also looking forward to keeping an eye on the Masters at Augusta this week. I think Lee Westwood may break his major duck.
I hope you are all enjoying your golf. Look forward to seeing you soon
