Mat had a great time in China, finishing 10th in Shanghai in the Lan Hai Open and recording his best finish of the year, 2nd in the Beijing Open.

With Scores of 75,72,73,65 in the Lan Hai Open, Mat finished in a share of 10th place. His 65 in the final round was the lowest score of the tournament. He also recorded 21 birdies for the week.

On to Beijing for the Earl’s Beijing Open. He continued the final round form in Shanghai, by repeating his 65 and as a result, took a share of the lead after the first round. Round two was disrupted by a huge weather delay late in the afternoon. Mat had to return to finish his round Saturday morning, shooting a two under 70 to be 4th going into the weekend.

Round three and ‘moving day’ saw just that happen, as Mat caught the leaders in his opening five holes and raced to 8 under after 11 holes. He pared out to shoot his lowest score of the year, an 8 under 64. This was the lowest score of the tournament for a second consecutive week.

Mat began Sunday with a two shot lead on 17 under par. Followed by some great play under pressure on Sunday, he made 3 birdies and 14 pars during his round. Unfortunately it was a lost ball on his second to last hole of the day that saw his lead disappear. Despite a courageous birdie on the 18th, he finished runner-up, two shots behind eventual winner Zhang of China.
